DC Building Codes Updates

Understand energy performance-related DC building codes.

Introduction

The 2017 District of Columbia Energy Conservation Code update includes a number of significant changes that amend the model energy code (ASHRAE 90.1–2013) which affects commercial energy codes. This resource addresses how these changes affect key energy code users by

  • identifying the code sections where amendments appear
  • providing a brief summary of each change
  • offering insight into how amendments might affect different code users

While a number of parties will be affected by these code changes, this resource focuses on building owners, architects, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineers. To see the comprehensive updates to the DC Construction Codes, which includes integrated versions of the DC Building, Energy Conservation, and Green Codes, please visit the District’s Department of Buildings.
